Fundraising is easier than you think

Fundraising is easier than you think! Start now and you’ll be on your way to becoming a Top Fundraiser.

Set a fundraising Goal. Set your goal high, you may be surprised at how much you can raise just by asking.

Don’t be afraid to ask. Create a donor list of people that you think would be interested in supporting you and go from there.

Start your fundraising early. Participants who start fundraising early raise more money overall.

Use the Online Fundraising System. Send a personalized email asking friends, families, and employees to donate and track your progress.

Send a letter. Copy, paste and personalize this sample letter and send it to family, friends, local businesses and other places where you’d like to make a more formal ask for donations.

Create a link on your FACEBOOK or MYSPACE account. Your friends will be able to link directly to your page, learn more about your fundraising page and donate.

Carry your pledge sheet with you. You never know when an opportunity to ask for support will present itself!

Follow-up. With our online fundraising system you can easily send out a reminder email to donors who have not yet pledged

Company Matching Program. Talk to your boss or HR department to find out if your company has a matching program, and remind your donors to do this too. It could DOUBLE your fundraising total.

Be excited and positive about your involvement. Create an online fundraising page with pictures and your updated training progress.

Be creative with your fundraising. Have a draw at work for donations of over $20; invite people to a fundraising dinner at your home. Contact the MS Society office if you need more ideas or help with your own.

Let your donors know where their money is going and that their donations are making a difference. Three people in Canada are diagnosed with MS everyday. Funds raised from the Tours go toward supporting research and client services. Visit www.mssociety.ca/en/research for the latest research news.

Change the message on your cell phone or answering machine to mention that you are fundraising for the RONA MS Bike Tours.

Change the signature line of your outgoing e-mails to mention your involvement. Click here to download electronic signatures.

Bring a potential donor to a Tour Workshop or Pub Night.

Post an item in your weekly church bulletin announcing your involvement.

Hold a garage sale. Ask friends and family to donate items that you can sell.

Perform a complimentry service for donations such as raking leaves, mowing lawns or housesitting.

Bag groceries. Ask a local store if you can bag people’s groceries for donations. Let everyone know that the donations benefit the MS Society of Canada.

Say THANK YOU. A personal thank you goes a long way to securing donations for next year.

Tell Us about your great fundraising idea and have it featured on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

Post a RONA MS Bike Tour poster – available from Candice Stevens at 1-800-268-7582 ext 3171 – in your company’s break room. Put your name and phone number on the poster.

Create a rolling screen saver on your work computer.

Create a personal newsletter or blog to inform your friends, neighbours and co-workers about your role in the RONA MS Bike Tour, as well as your fundraising goal.
