Scott Simpkins
I'm
one of the thousands of British Columbians that you helped by
riding in the RONA MS Bike Tour. I've had MS for 13 years,
and I have experienced first-hand the results of your efforts.
Last
year was my first time riding in the MS Bike Tour. The experience
I had impacted me so powerfully that this year I'm determined
to ride again. Sometimes people ask me how I can even think
of doing such a thing because of my health, but I laugh and
say, 'Having MS is like running a marathon every day - surely
I can handle the Bike Tour!'
All
joking aside, I know what a big difference the tour makes to
people like me. I'm only 31 years old, yet I'm plagued by fatigue
and pain, and I can no longer work in a job that I love. We
need to find a cure.
The
fact that I have MS used to frustrate and anger me. I felt like
an old man by the time I was in my early 20's, when I was supposed
to be in my prime! But my experience with the Bike Tour has
totally changed my attitude
it's gotten me off the couch
and filled me with hope, inspiration, and purpose!
My
advice to you is to commit yourself to something and then stick
with it. For me, I've chosen the RONA MS Bike Tour, and I know
I'm making a difference in my own life and the lives of others
who affected by MS.

Forrest
McKay - Kamloops
In
2002, 11-year-old Forrest McKay had a mission: he was an official
Kamloops MS Bike Tour volunteer, charged with the job of feeding
the riders at the 15 km turnaround point. During his shift, Forrest
came to realize he was missing out on something big, and he ran
to his nearby home to get his bike.
With only
a few neighborhood rides under his belt, Forrest rode the 15 km to
the
finish line. The next year I he returned as a member of the Rainbow Riders
team. Riding for his mom, who has MS, Forrest easily rode the 30 km!
His
next goal? To be a team captain!

Steve
Savage - Vancouver Island
Steve
Savage and his family have been involved in the Grape Escape
Bike Tour from its beginning. He has been diagnosed with MS for
four years, which has meant giving up his passion and profession
as a commercial pilot. Steve, Florence, and their four children
have always been avid cyclists.
Steve has had
to slow down his active lifestyle, but he still looks forward to the bike
tour. "Participating
in the bike tour is a positive family activity for us," says Steve. "Most
importantly it's a way to pass on something to those who really suffer
from MS."
