The MS Society of Canada Awards Program was established to recognize the outstanding contributions made by members, non-members, board members, volunteers, people living with MS and caregivers. This awards program helps identify achievement, dedication to the community and excellence in furthering the work of the MS Society in Atlantic Canada. Any person, organization or group may be nominated for an award provided they meet the award criteria.
2009 Award Recipients
President's Award
Recognizing the valuable contribution of persons with MS within the MS Society by enhancing the influence and position of persons with MS within the MS Society of Canada and creating greater public awareness of the importance of active involvement of persons with MS.
Division Award of Merit, Member
Recognizing an outstanding contribution by a member of the MS Society in furthering the work of the Society on a provincial or regional basis.
Division Award of Merit, Non-Member
In recognition of an outstanding contribution by a person who is not a member of the MS society of Canada, but has furthered the work of the MS Society on a provincial/regional basis.
OPAL Award
Recognizing caregivers to people with MS who have demonstrated outstanding commitment and caring.
Client Services Ambassador Award
In recognition of the work of an individual or group in Atlantic Canada's long term commitment to enabling people affected by MS to enhance their quality of life.
Susan Rourke Public Education Award
Honouring its namesake’s contribution to increasing public awareness of MS, the Award is given to recognize a journalist’s efforts to provide general audiences with a greater understanding of multiple sclerosis, medical research, and/or its effects on people who have the disease.
SAFIRE Award
Given to an individual or group who has enhanced the work of the MS Society of Canada through the provision of Support, Advocacy, Funding, Information,
Referral and / or Education to their community.
